Gmail gets two new features

On The Official Gmail Blog, Google has posted two new features that have been added to their popular Gmail webmail service. Unlike many recently rolled out features, these particular ones aren't categorized as Labs. These are fully functional, hard coded features, baked right into Gmail. The new features are drag and drop attachments, and insert calendar invitation.

Drag and drop attachments

  • The ability to attach files by dragging them from your PC straight into your Gmail window
  • Only supported by Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox 3.6
  • Other browsers will work as well, once they support this type of functionality

Insert calendar invitation

  • A tighter integration between Gmail and Calendar
  • Lets you attach and schedule a meeting or event right inside the email you're sending
  • The event shows up in your calendar and gives the recipients the option of accepting or rejecting it
  • Assuming the people being invited have shared calendars, you will be able to see their schedules and set up an event accordingly
  • Will have heavy appeal to Enterprises who use Gmail as their company's email provider
