When Apple acquired Lala, a lot of people wondered how long the popular streaming audio service would last. Ed Bott recently asked the question over at CNet, and today we've got our answer: about five months.
Visit Lala.com today, and you'll be greeted with a brief message: we're shutting down and we're not taking any more new users. Existing members who still have funds in their wallets can still purchase music until May 31st. After that, it's anybody's guess.
TUAW reported back in January that Apple's intent was to use Lala to create a sort of online locker from which users could stream their digital tunes. WWDC starts June 7 -- only a week after Lala's doors will close for good.
Think an announcement might be in the works?
