If you might be using windows for a while, you must have used tens of softwares. For some of them you might have to pay some cash. But today I am going to show you a list of free software applications which will allow you to save your dollars and to do everything which a basic windows user wants it to do. Here we go..

7 must have free software applications for windows (to cover all your basic needs)

1. Security:

First you need an antivirus to make your system secure from viruses. AVG Free Antivirus will do fine for your security. Get it from AVG Free Antivirus website.

2. Web Browing & Email:

Well there are many free web browsers available like Firefox, Chrome, Opera. But I will recommend SeaMonkey because it is not just the browser. It consists of Web-browser, advanced e-mail, newsgroup and feed client, IRC chat, and HTML editor. Hence it serves all your Internet needs in one application. Get the Sea Monkey.

3. Instant Messanger(IM) Client:

For instant messaging people use different networks like yahoo, google, aim and many more. But instead of using individual clients for all I will suggest one client to rule them all. You can also give a try to Pidgin.

4. Productivity:

Under this category most of us generally use Microsoft Office for which one has to pay hundreds of dollars. But now I have a free alternative to microsoft office which can do almost anything that Microsoft Office can do but this one is free. It is called Open Office and you can download Open Office for free.

5. Entertainment:

For entertainment I would suggest VLC media player, it can play almost any multimedia file format available on the face of this earth and ofcourse it is free. Download VLC media player.

6. Graphics Editor:

How you are going to edit your pictures? Well I would suggest you to try Paint.net. It provide advanced features like layers, magic wand, filters and much more editing tools in a set up of just a few Mbs. It is quite powerful and can do almost anything you want to do with your pictures. Get Paint.NET for free.

7. Anti Spyware Tool:

Now finally we need a program to scan your computer to find settings changed by spyware, malware or other unwanted programs. For all of these problems one tool is just enough. You should try trend micro hijackthis for all of the malware and spyware removal.

I know that there are some more applications that you might need but those necessities vary from user to user like torrent downloader, FTP client, etc. But the above 7 are must have for everyone. These are the basic must have free software applications for every windows user.
